How Almanac works

The hidden places live under Uncharted India — 32 destinations, each with its own book. Start at /uncharted for the full contents page and open any one of them.

They are not on the city guides and they are not in the search results of most travel sites. That is the point. If a place is easy to find elsewhere, it is not in this section.

Six city guides — Shimla, Leh-Ladakh, Jodhpur, Nainital, Dehradun and Cherrapunji — carry a red ribbon on the right edge of the rating card.

Pull the ribbon and an ink line zigzags down the page, revealing the hidden places near that city. Pick one and a full desk book opens, with the writing, the route and the photographs for that place.

The other city guides do not have a ribbon yet. Nothing is broken if you do not see one.

We do not sell anything. When you book, we redirect you to a partner site and the booking happens entirely there.

Payment, confirmation, changes and cancellations are all handled by that partner under their own terms. We never see your payment details.

If something goes wrong with a booking, the partner you paid is the one who can fix it.
