Poovar is a small rustic town 27 km from Thiruvananthapuram with unspoilt, unexplored golden sand beaches and beautiful backwaters. Also known as a fishing village, the tranquil Poovar island lies between the Arabian Sea and the Neyyar River. Hiring a boat during sunset that takes you through the mangrove forests of the backwaters is a must-do activity (around INR 3,000-4,000). The town has beautiful resorts and hotels known for exceptional hospitality. Poovar Beach is secluded and only accessible by boat — swimming is allowed year-round except monsoon months. The golden sand beach, the estuary where river meets sea, and the floating restaurants create a Kerala experience far from the tourist trail. It is the southernmost beach experience in Kerala before Kanyakumari.
