Jim Corbett National Park is India's oldest national park, set amidst the foothills of the Himalayas in Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Known for housing the endangered Bengal tiger, it is part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve and was the first place where Project Tiger was launched in 1973. Home to more than 650 species of rare and migratory birds, it is a haven for bird watchers. The most popular attraction is Dhikala, a forest lodge on the border of Patil Dun Valley, known for its stunning location and rich wildlife. Only 180 vehicles are allowed daily. The park remains closed from July to October during monsoons, though the Jhirna, Dhela, and Sitabani zones stay open year-round. Safaris are organised in all zones by two shifts. The park is spread over 500+ sq km and divided into 5 zones: Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Domunda, and Sonanandi. Named after the famous hunter-turned-naturalist Jim Corbett, the park shelters tigers, elephants, leopards, deer, and gharials along the Ramganga River. Multiple resorts line the riverbank outside the park, offering jungle-lodge experiences.
