About Haridwar

Haridwar is one of the seven holiest cities in India, situated where the sacred Ganga enters the Indo-Gangetic plains for the first time. Dotted with temples, ashrams, and narrow lanes, it is famous for the evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki PauriHar Ki Pauri ghat where thousands gather to pray and float diyas. It's believed that taking a dip in the sacred waters relieves one of all sins. Haridwar hosts the Kumbh Mela every twelve years (alongside Ujjain, Nashik, and Allahabad), and the annual Kanwar Mela during saawan (rainy season). It is the gateway to the Char Dham of Uttarakhand and base for Rishikesh and Devprayag. According to tradition, there are Panch Tirth (five pilgrimages) within Haridwar — Har Ki PauriHar Ki Pauri, Kushwart Ghat, Kankhal, Mansa Devi TempleMansa Devi Temple, and Chandi Devi TempleChandi Devi Temple. Haridwar is known globally for Ayurveda, meditation, and yoga. Since it is a religious centre, alcohol and non-vegetarian food are not permitted. The city is well connected by bus and trains but gets especially busy during the yatra season from May to October.

Ganga Aarti

The Ganga Aarti in Hardwar is performed at the Har-ki-Pauri Ghat. It is a ritual of light and sound where the priests perform prayers with bowls of fire and the ringing of the temple bells. The aarti is organised twice a day, every morning at sunrise and every evening at sunset.
