The Story

About Auli

Dotted with apple orchards, old oaks, and pine trees, Auli has no dearth of natural beauty. A popular skiing destination dating back to the 8th Century AD, Auli is a hill resort in the Himalayan range with glittering slopes and clean environment. Located at 2,800m above sea level, it offers views of Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat, and Kamat Kamet mountain ranges. The GMVL (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) runs a ski resort and rental shop, while many religious destinations are scattered around — it is believed that Shankaracharya blessed Auli with his visit. Apart from skiing, you can go for numerous treks in the Garhwal Himalayas and enjoy spellbinding views of snow-draped mountains. The 4-km Auli ropeway — one of Asia's longest — offers breathtaking panoramas. In summer, the meadows burst with wildflowers, making it equally beautiful year-round. Auli is the starting point for the trek to Gorson BugyalGorson Bugyal, a vast alpine meadow, and is accessed via Joshimath, the winter seat of Badrinath.
