About Agra

Agra is home to the Taj MahalTaj Mahal — one of the Seven Wonders of the World and India's most iconic monument. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the white marble mausoleum took 22 years and 20,000 artisans to complete. But Agra is more than the Taj — it is part of the Golden Triangle (with Delhi and Jaipur) and contains three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra FortAgra Fort, a massive red sandstone fortress with opulent marble palaces inside, is where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb, gazing at the Taj from a small window. Fatehpur SikriFatehpur Sikri (37 km away), the abandoned Mughal capital built by Akbar, is a perfectly preserved 16th-century ghost city. Mehtab Bagh across the Yamuna offers the best sunset views of the Taj. Agra's Petha (translucent sweet) and leather goods are famous. The city is well connected — just 3 hours from Delhi by Gatimaan Express.
